Definition

Arnica is a medication mostly made of arnica, which relieves minor pain and trauma and is sometimes prescribed for the treatment of hematoma. Arnica can be bought at a pharmacy without a doctor's prescription. It's an ointment which is applied locally by rubbing it into the skin, while avoiding contact with the mucus membranes (eyes, mouth, open wounds). Arnica must not be used in people who have had epileptic seizures or in women who are nursing.
