Cognition is a term that encompasses psychological processes related to the mind. Thus language, memory, reasoning, the coordination of movements, called praxis, the forms of recognition that are grouped together under the term gnosis, the executive functions making up reasoning, judgment, planning, organization and the functions of perception are all cognitive functions. These are the functions orchestrated by the brain. In certain illnesses such as dementia, the cognitive functions are progressively altered. The evaluation of these functions in case of suspected cognitive troubles is done through neurocognitive tests.
