Definition

The deltoid muscle is triangular-shaped, and located in the upper side part of the shoulder. This is an abductor muscle in the arm: thanks to the deltoid muscle, it is possible to lift the arm away from the body. But this is not its only function: the deltoid also participates in rotational movements, bending and extending, making it one of the most important and versatile arm muscles. This is usually the muscle injected with most vaccines in adults (usually the thigh in children).
