Talalgia is a generic term used to describe all types of pain located in the heel, caused by various different conditions. It can be due to damage to the Achilles tendon, Sever's disease
secondary to inflammation of part of the heel bone (the calcaneus), plantar fasciitis
meaning inflammation of one of the membranes close to the muscles of the foot
pad, or trauma. By examining the Achilles tendon, a tendinitis can be revealed, and x-ray
can help rule out the rarer case of calcaneus fracture.
