Ephelide - Definition

March 2017

Ephelide is the scientific name given to freckles. These small, reddish-brown spots of variable size (1 to 5 mm) are not raised on the epidermis (contrary to moles). They appear most frequently on light skin and on people with blond or red hair, most often on areas of the body exposed to the sun (face, hands, etc.). They are most visible between the ages of 5 and 15, and tend to fade after.
