Commonly known as a bunion, hallux abducto valgus is a growing deformity of the big toe that little by little protrudes out to the side at its joint
and is commonly accompanied by dislocation
. This physical abnormality affects nearly solely women, aged between 40 and 50 years. It can be caused by hereditary factors, by wearing high heels or ill-fitting shoes, or by being flat-footed. Hallux abducto valgus causes intense pain
, sometimes with the added complication
of inflammation, corns, arthritis
, and more. With well-fitted shoes, an orthopedic
brace, and physiotherapy, surgery can be avoided.
