The epidemiology of suicide is a specialized branch of epidemiology, the science which studies the different factors causing disease. Adapted to the study of suicide, this science thus focuses on the causes and determiners impacting the statistics of suicide in a given population. These statistics themselves are studied in order to glean trends and evolutions from one country to another, according to sex, age group, or socio-professional situation. The rate of suicide in the U.S. is about 13 per 100,000 citizens.
