Definition

Tussive syncope appears as a fit of significant and prolonged coughing, followed by a loss of consciousness. Unconsciousness occurs suddenly. Tussive syncope is seen mainly among former smokers with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease called COPD. To prevent tussive syncope, the origin of the cough must be researched and supported.
