Definition

The cecum is an organ taking the form of an 8cm (3in) pouch, located near the colon. The appendix is ??attached to the cecum. The cecum begins with the ileocecal valve and leads to the colon. Food digestion begins in the cecum. The main diseases that affect this organ are inflammation, or typhlites, which is often caused by bacteria, as well as cancer. The cecum can also become twisted and result in intestinal obstruction..
