Hello,

My ears are producing lots of earwax and my ears get plugged up badly.

What is the best way to remove these wax plugs without hurting the eardrum.

Thank you very much for your advice.

Firstly, wax is more common in men, those who smoke, chew gum, wear head phones a lot and those that work in noisy environments.

Wax in the ear is important, it protects the ear cannel and prevents foreign bodies from entering the ear.

If you have a wax problem then DO NOT use cotton buds - you stimulate the production of more wax and can push any wax that's there towards the ear drum causing pain and temporary deafness and in some case perforate the ear drum.

To get rid of your wax, soften it with olive oil - 1 -2 drops twice a day for 1 week and then see the nurse at your GP surgery to have it professionally removed.
