Hello,

I wish to know the drawbacks of using a copper IUD. I have been using it for 6 months now. At the beginning, I was not being able to cope with those painful periods but now I have a problem with spots. Will they go because I do not have a really fine skin right now? In addition, there are these spots. Is this due to the copper IUD?

Thanks for any reply, I really need some help!

Painful periods can be a problem with the Copper IUD, see if it settles otherwise return to your family planning clinic or GP for removal. You must consider other methods of contraception before having it removed.

Your spots will be your normal fluctuating hormones. You can get treatment for your spots or try the oral combined contraceptive pill as this might help.
