Surgical treatment of female infertility

Surgical treatment for your infertility may be offered depending on your past medical history or the results of investigations mentioned previously.

The aim of surgical management is to attempt to create a favourable environment for pregnancy to occur. These options include:
  • Polycystic ovarian syndrome:
  • Fallopian tube problems: if pregnancy is prevented by blocked or scarred fallopian tubes, they can be cleared usually via keyhole or laparoscopic surgery
  • Endometriosis: if the ovaries or uterus are stuck with endometrial deposits, they can be removed to try to improve fertility
  • Fibroids: can be shrunk or removed but it is not clear if this is beneficial
