Investigating constipation

Your GP will be able to assess your constipation and initiate investigations or treatment if required.

This may involve conducting blood tests, an x-ray or ultrasound scan of your abdomen, or a colonoscopy. A colonoscopy is when a camera is inserted into your bowel through your back passage to find out exactly what is the cause of your constipation.

Your GP may also make changes to current medication or give you additional drugs to help your symptoms such as laxatives.
