Adenopathy - Definition

Adenopathy is an inflammation of one or several of the lymph nodes, either due to swelling or to cancer. The lymph nodes are a sort of knot situated in the path of the lymphatic vessels which play a leading role in the body's defense against illness. When an adenopathy occurs, isolated or localized in the same place, the cause is most often due to swelling linked to a minor infection, but if the adenopathy becomes chronic, or numerous and widespread, it is important to look into the cause.
