Benign - Definition

Definition

In medicine, the term benign indicates the absence of seriousness of a condition or the favorable prognosis of its progression. The adjective of benign is written benignant, and the opposite of benignant is malignant which is defined as a serious condition or a disease whose prognosis is poor. A wart or a cyst for example, are generally considered as benign tumors. When a medical condition is benign, it is nothing to be alarmed about.
