Cachexia - Definition

Ask a question

Cachexia is a state of deep decline in the general health of an individual. It is associated with severe malnutrition in the body. It is often one of the consequences of anorexia, cancer, heart failure, kidney or liver deficiencies in advanced stages, an autoimmune or a serious infectious disease such as tuberculosis or AIDS. The loss of muscle mass leads to immobility. Treatment of cachexia is based on nutrition associated with the treatment of the cause.
