Orthopedic - Definition


Orthopedic is an adjective describing an action or object relating to the field of orthopedia, the surgical specialism involved in the treatment of the musculoskeletal system. Hence the term orthopedic prosthesis for knee, hip, shoulder, elbow, and other such prostheses are implanted to replace a defective or painful joint. This field is also involved in the design of orthopedic shoes, enabling malformed legs or feet to be progressively righted and corrected.
