Periodontology - Definition


Periodontology is a specialism of dentistry, the science of teeth and tooth-related diseases. Periodontology encapsulates all patient care and treatments, such as medication, surgery, or laser techniques, applied to the periodontium, which is the combined supporting tissues of the teeth, including the gums, the bone surrounding the tooth (alveolar bone), the periodontal ligament, and the cementum, the tissue covering the dental root.
