Peeling skin - Definition

Peeling skin, called desquamation in medical terms, can be caused by different conditions. Very often, skin peels following chemical, thermal, or sun burn, with the latter being the most common cause. It can also be caused by an allergic reaction to a substance applied to the skin, in frequent cases a substance contained in a beauty product or perfume. Among the many different possible causes, dermatological disease is also a possibility, such as psoriasis, localized skin infection from a fungus or other germ, and so on.
