Loss of appetite - Definition

Loss of appetite is referred to in medical parlance as anorexia, and can be caused by a number of conditions, both benign and severe. If the loss of appetite only lasts for a few days, there is no call for alarm, as simple work stress or a passing sense of sadness can cause the appetite to be reduced, as can an infection or temporary disease. If it manifests over time, however, it is recommended to consult your doctor in order to investigate the exact cause. This can reveal a psychological disorder such as depression or anorexia nervosa, or even a mild to severe digestive, cardiac, or respiratory disorder.
