Iron deficiency - Definition

Iron is essential to the balance of the body. In particular, it allows the operation of oxygen transport in the blood through its role in the formation of hemoglobin.

An iron deficiency can therefore cause anemia, and is often due to poor dietary intake or excessive blood loss including gynecological (heavy or prolonged periods) or digestive.

The treatment is an injection of iron medication in the most serious cases.
