Chlamydia pneumoniae - Definition


Chlamydia pneumoniae is a parasitic bacterial germ which reaches the airways. Symptoms due to infection by Chlamydia pneumoniae are those of gradual onset with cough, sputum, and general pain associated with fever. Given this clinical picture, a chest X-ray is often performed and rarely, blood research via PCR. It is treated with antibiotics, usually macrolide or tetracycline.
