The coccyx bone is located in the lower spine. It consists of four to six fused vertebrae, which are from the remains of a human "tail" which disappeared during the course of human evolution. The coccyx is located between the sacrum and the anal sphincter. This bone is essential for the structural balance and support of the human body. Fractures of the coccyx are possible in the case of a fall on the buttocks and only rest and the absence of movement is recommended for healing. When moving, an intrarectal manipulation but also surgery may be required.
