Allergic conjunctivitis - Definition


Allergic conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the conjunctiva, the ??skin on the inside of the eyelids, and is caused by an allergen. In case of allergic conjunctivitis, rash, rhinitis, and sneezing are frequently present. Itching is also common in the eye as well as tearing. Allergic conjunctivitis is not contagious. Treatment consists of regularly cleaning the eye with a saline solution, which can be supplemented by taking antihistamines.
