Corticobasal degeneration - Definition

Ask a question

Corticobasal degeneration (CBD) is a neurodegenerative disease that causes the deterioration of brain function. It particularly affects the brain and the basal ganglia located in the cortex. These areas will gradually deteriorate: they do not disappear, but become totally useless. Corticobasal degeneration is part of Parkinson's disease; the main symptoms are slowness in movement, motor and muscle tone disorders, mostly in the upper limbs and affecting only one side. The patient gradually loses his praxis capacity (inability to make gestures, to recognize objects...) and progresses to dementia. Currently, no treatment is known.
