Vagina - Definition

The woman's vagina allows for the reproduction and procreation of children. The vagina is located inside the body, in front of the rectum and behind the bladder. Its entrance is at the vulva and labia minora and it ends at the cervix. The vagina is on average between 3 and 5 in long. The menstrual blood flows into the vagina through a very narrow opening that allows the passage of sperm. The walls of the vagina can stretch to accommodate the male penis but more importantly, the fetus during childbirth.
