The term "arthralgia" encompasses all types of joint pain. Arthralgia may be due to mechanics, being the result of repeated effort, or inflammation, in which case it is already present upon waking and associated with stiff muscles. Arthralgia is often tied to osteoarthritis, sprains, and arthritis. Joint pains may be accompanied with other symptoms, such as redness, swelling, and a sensation of heat. If several areas are painful, the affliction may be polyarthralgia.
