Remodeling - Definition

Remodeling signifies, in medical parlance, the alteration of a tissue, organ, or cell. It is most often observed in mucous membranes or skin, such as scarring, which constitutes a natural form of remodeling. This process can be the result of a disease, such as when a tissue's structure is remodeled, which can lead to a change in an organ's organizational structure and alter its functions, or increase its mass through the uncontrolled multiplication of cells. Tumors, which are cancerous growths, are the result of cellular remodeling. It is also possible to observe chromosome remodeling, which is when these chains of genetic information are altered, potentially leading to congenital diseases.
