Thyroid scintigraphy - Definition

Ask a question

Thyroid scintigraphy is a medical procedure that allows the function of this gland to be assessed. Scintigraphy consists of administering slightly modified iodine, which is collected by the thyroid and secreted, the marked fluid showing the areas of excessive or insufficient function. If the substance is distributed evenly it indicates correct thyroid function. Thyroid scintigraphy can be accompanied by biological tests, notably TSH-level, and by ultrasonography of the thyroid.
