Night sweats - Definition

Night sweats constitute a particular condition defined as excessive sweating during the night, when asleep. These sweats are sometimes accompanied by hot flashes, and are very often a symptom of a hormonal disorder. The underlying causes can also be non-hormonal, however, such as drug withdrawal, stress, or medicinal treatment. Night sweats can be extremely uncomfortable, with the patient waking up in the middle of the night to find himself at times literally drenched in sweat. The cause of these sweats must be discovered and an adapted treatment initiated.
