Binaural beat - Definition

A binaural beat is an apparent sound perceived by the brain, and the perception of which is independent of an actual physical stimulus. When a tone at a precise frequency is played in one ear and the other ear receives a sound at a slightly different frequency, the brain assimilates the two sounds in order to register only one which is not, however, present in either of the two frequencies. According to alternative medicine, binaural beats may have a positive influence on the relaxation or stimulation of the mind.
