Benfluorex - Definition

Benfluorex is the active ingredient in the medication manufactured by Servier laboratories, named "Mediator". This molecule was widely talked about because of its toxicity, which motivated the ban on its sale in 2009. Initially, benfluorex was recommended to manage type 2 diabetes, but it was also prescribed for people who simply desired to lose weight. The drug is thought to have caused at least one thousand deaths in France.
