Bisphosphonates - Definition

Ask a question

Bisphosphonates are treatments used to combat the effects of osteoporosis (a rheumatological affliction that leads to the degradation of bone mass). Bone tissue regenerates itself continually, as new cells replace the old. The action of bisphosphonates consists of fighting bone resorption and the destruction of bone mass. They are also recommended in case of hypercalcemia (an increase in the rate of calcium in the blood) in order to counteract its effects.
