Blepharospasm - Definition

A blepharospasm is a bothersome symptom of dystonia of the periorbital zone. It appears as repeated and involuntary contractions of the eyelids. Though its cause is unknown, its occurrence is often attributed to stress or spasmophilia. Treatment for blepharospasm is based on the administration of medications that reduce anxiety (anxiolytics) or muscular contractions (myorelaxants).
