Ovary - Definition

The ovaries are the female gonads, organs involved in reproduction, in which eggs are produced. The ovaries are located at the internal reproductive organs.

Women have two ovaries involved in oocyte production, the secretion of female sex cells. In addition to this primary function, the ovary plays an important role in the endocrine system because it promotes the synthesis of estrogen and progesterone.
