Cretinism is a pathology that results from a deficiency of thyroid hormones. This endocrine disease stunts development, both physically and psychologically. From a physical standpoint, those afflicted with cretinism show multiple symptoms, the most pronounced being soft, malformed bones and small stature (dwarfism). Also, the teeth appear late and the skin is particularly dry. Psychologically, those suffering from cretinism display mental deficiencies.
