Organ donation - Definition

Ask a question

Organ donation consists of the withdrawal of organs or tissues from an unpaid voluntary donor. These organs or tissues may then be transplanted in the body of a seriously ill recipient. When the organ removal is performed on a brain-dead person, it is called a post-mortem organ donation. To facilitate the decision of the family after the person's death, public authorities encourage everyone to have an organ donor card so that one's position on the subject is clear.
