Nocturnal enuresis - Definition

Nocturnal enuresis is a urinary disorder occurring in children over the age of 5 or in adults, characterized by involuntary urination during sleep. It can be tied to several factors: too deep a sleep, emotional stress, lack of maturity in urinary reflexes, etc. Though the disorder is physically benign, it can nevertheless affect the child psychologically and emotionally. Different therapies exist: behavioral, medicinal, or alternative (such as acupuncture or hypnosis).
