Healer - Definition

A healer is an individual recognized for their skill in healing and/or alleviating the symptoms of the sick by using alternative medicine that is not recognized by traditional medicine. Healers are purported to possess mysterious powers, and often use magic in their methods. They originate from traditional societies, and vary in name and practices depending on their field of specialty (bone setters, shamans, exorcists, etc.). Their work holds no scientific value, and even though some healers are reputed to have true "powers", this field is populated with many charlatans.
