Obstetric gynecology - Definition

Ask a question

Obstetric gynecology refers to a range of different medical, more specifically surgical, fields. These cover everything related to monitoring pregnancy and childbirth. An obstetrician therefore treats and monitors the woman's condition, as well as that of the child she bears, assisted by a midwife and/or maternity nurse. This specialty thus also includes performing examinations (ultrasonography, amniocentesis, and so on), establishing prenatal diagnoses, and the delivery itself, along with caesarean section.
