Hypochondrium - Definition

Hypochondrium is the anatomical term for the area of the abdomen located under the diaphragm and vertebral ribs, each side of the epigastrium. The right hypochondrium covers the right colon, bile ducts, gall bladder, and liver. The left corresponds to the left colon, stomach, and spleen. Together they can be targeted by many different types of pain that can be caused by different localized organ pathologies, which ultrasonography, scanning, or biological check-up can diagnose.
