Hypogonadism - Definition

Hypogonadism is a loss of reproductive function, particularly affecting the testicles and ovaries, collectively called the gonads, which are responsible for producing gametes and hormones. This condition can be responsible for a lack of sexual development, or even infertility in both men and women. Turner syndrome is a congenital form of hypogonadism. Hypogonadism can also be caused by eating vegetables grown from cadmium-rich soil. The principal treatments are estrogen or testosterone prescription, surgery, and radiotherapy.
