Hypovolemia - Definition

Hypovolemia refers to a significant drop in the blood volume held in the venous system of the body. This condition is typically caused by excessive dehydration, either renal or extra-renal, or due to hemorrhage. Hypovolemia causes a drop in blood pressure and can even result in volume shock, fatal if intravenous fluids are not administered without delay.
