Colon pain - Definition

Ask a question

The colon is the last section of the digestive tract. It is divided into four parts: the right or ascending colon, the transverse colon, the left or descending colon, and the sigmoid colon. It is used to store and eliminate feces. Pain in the colon may have various causes, including constipation, inflammation, as in the case of sigmoid diverticulitis, or the existence of a colon tumor. In general, isolated pain will be treated symptomatically based on the cause suspected by the practitioner. If the pain persists, an examination of the colon by X-ray, CT scan, or colonoscopy may be required.
