Endocrinology is the medical specialty devoted to internal hormone secretion. Hormones are secreted by different glands and involved in the proper functioning of the body, through their transport through the bloodstream. Endocrinology enables the verification of the proper functioning of the control systems, the amount of these hormones, and the treatment of any diseases related to hormonal imbalance. Endocrinology affects all body functions: nutrition, reproduction, digestion, dermatology, or growth, among others. Diseases of the thyroid, adrenal glands, or hormones secreted by the pituitary gland, but also diabetes, are some of the many conditions treated by an endocrinologist.
