Definition

Feedback is the control of the functional changes of an organ on the overlying system influencing this organ. This concept is mainly encountered in the glands of the body: in fact, the secretion of a hormone by an organ and modifications of its quantity will send a message to the gland acting on this secretion. If hormone production is too high, the hormone in question has a negative feedback and sends a message to the overlying system to inhibit this production in order to return to normal. On the contrary, in the case of an insufficient amount of hormone, positive feedback will have the opposite effect and stimulate the secretion.
