Glutamine - Definition

A natural amino acid, glutamine is a component of proteins. It plays a particularly large role in the metabolization of nitrogen and the assimilation of ammonia, due to the enzyme glutamine synthetase. It is the most present amino acid in muscles and blood. Its effect on muscle behavior makes it one of the preferred amino acids of athletes, who consume it as a dietary supplement. It may also be prescribed to promote muscular healing after a surgical intervention.
