Incidence (epidemiology) - Definition

Incidence represents a statistic estimate of risk that a person or group of people will develop a specific disease. This is a branch of epidemiology, the science of studying the frequency, distribution, and risk factors of diseases. Explicitly, incidence allows us to determine the number of individuals that could contract the disease in question, based on a predetermined population sample and over a previously-defined time scale.
