Hysterography - Definition

Hysterography or hysterosalpingography is a medical imaging test to visualize the uterus, cervix, and fallopian tubes. A substance opaque to X-rays is injected into the uterine wall and x-rays are done. The hysterography is less used since the advent of the hysteroscopy, which is less restrictive and avoids exposing the genitals to X-rays. The hysterography is nevertheless still practiced, especially in the evaluation of infertility in women, the search for defects or tumors, and must be performed in the first part of the menstrual cycle before ovulation.
