Bone infarction - Definition

A bone infarction is a destruction of part of the bone due to a lack of vascularization of a given area. This is called osteonecrosis, describing the cellular destruction following the end of oxygen supply. Bone infarctions usually result from a blood clot that blocks an artery supplying a bone with oxygen. They can also be the result of trauma.
